A book of photographs taken by B. E. Smith while walking his dog in Brookside Park, Ames, Iowa during the morning hours. The book does double duty as a perpetual calendar that can be used for up to five years.
B. E. Smith’s new book/perpetual calendar This Morning in Brookside Park: A Perpetual Calendar is now available worldwide. Smith, a Professor Emeritus of Painting at Iowa State University’s College of Design, created the book in collaboration with polytekton over the last few years while collecting a library of photographs he shot during morning walks with his dog in Brookside Park in Ames, Iowa. The public park sits in the green zone between the campus of Iowa State University and the city of Ames. It is divided spatially into two roughly equal zones: a park-like front facing 6th Street with public facilities and a forest-like overgrown back facing 13th Street.
Smith displays in this collection of photographs an uncanny ability to tease out the metamorphic beauty of the park during the four seasons any visitor can experience over a year’s time. Each day of the year (each on a separate page) is paired with a photograph taken by B. E. Smith on that day in the park.
